From the volcanic shores of Lake Kivu
The most exclusive coffee beans in the world – rated in the top 1% of handcrafted Arabica coffees worldwide
KIVU NOIR COFFEE
In the centre of Africa, 4,800 ft above sea level, you will find Rwanda’s deepest body of water, Lake Kivu. A dark secret lies beneath the water... Lake Kivu’s bed sits upon a rift valley that is slowly being pulledapart, causing volcanic activity in the area.
In the rich volcanic soils that line the shores of Lake Kivu grow one of the world’s most exclusive coffee beans, the Rwandan Red Bourbon Arabica. Kivu noir is rated amongst the top 1% of the world’s highest quality single estate coffees, for its quintessential richness of flavour, freshness and smooth texture. Typically, Kivu noir takes one month from harvest to cup, whereas other coffees can take up to 2 years from harvest to cup.
SINGLE ESTATE RED BOURBON ARABICA
Certified as the highest quality organic single estate arabica coffee
A unique flavor experience
Grown in rich volcanic soil on Lake Kivu’s shores, where the air is pure and unpolluted by chemicals, Kivu noir’s Red Bourbon Arabica coffee belongs in the exclusive 1% of handcrafted Arabica coffees worldwide. Authentic. Pure. Fresh.
Rwanda is renowned worldwide for its fine coffees – a product of rich soils, high altitudes, plentiful equatorial sunshine and rainfall – and for how the coffee is carefully processed.
Kivu noir uses only this exclusive Red Bourbon Arabica variety, which grows at over 4,800 ft. above sea level, on the rolling hills around Nkora, high above the western shores of Rwanda’s deepest body of water, Lake Kivu.
These unique conditions, in combination with the rich volcanic soil, work hand-in-hand to create Kivu noir’s superior quality, luxuriously smooth and richly flavored single estate Arabica coffee.
In the processing of their coffee, Kivu noir Farmer Cooperatives who are predominantly women from local communities, pick and sort the cherries by hand. They then sift through the green beans after dry milling to remove any that are less than absolutely perfect - to ensure the best possible flavor.
Because Kivu noir is fiercely protective of the freshness guarantee of their coffee, they are one of few companies that roast their beans in their country of origin. They are able to assure the highest quality and the purest product by owning the entire coffee processing and supply chain.
Kivu noir’s obsession and passion for creating the quintessential product is evident from the very first taste of their exquisitely flavorful rich strong coffee. To certify freshness, they ensure the process from harvest to when the coffee is roasted and consumed is typically within a month, because like any natural substance, coffee begins to degrade from the time it is harvested. This deterioration process speeds up after roasting, which further compromises freshness. Kivu noir’s processing time is exceptional, as most commercial coffees take around 2 years from harvest to cup.
